You are also at the risk of having miscarriage.  Pregnant women with diabetes can also suffer from the eyes and kidney problem. The baby may also have a problem

  • With their normal development and can have heart and nervous system abnormalities.
  • Of being stillborn or sudden death after birth
  • Of heart and breathing
  • Of obesity or diabetes later in life

Treatment of Diabetes during Pregnancy

Treatment of diabetes is very necessary whether you are pregnant or trying to conceive. It is very important for the health of both you and your baby. So you should maintain your blood glucose levels with the help doctors to monitor the health of you and your baby. To have a safe and healthy pregnancy, it is important to control the diabetes before a woman conceives the baby.

Developing a healthy meal plan is also very important if you have diabetes. Talk to your doctor or dietitian for this purpose. Blood sugar can be controlled if you maintain proper nutrition. If you are taking any medicines for the diabetes before conceiving, you must tell your doctor about them. Only the safe medicines should be used during pregnancy.

It would be better if you visit perinatologist, diabetologist or endocrinologist because he is the specialist who treats women with high-risk pregnancies, and diabetes. You should also stay physically active and take a higher amount of folic acid in pregnancy. The dose of folic acid should be 5 milligrams in case a mother is diabetic.   Diabetes is dangerous for the baby so you should be very careful in treating it.
