Chances of Getting Pregnant After Tubal Ligation Reversal Surgery

Every year there are a great number of women who undergo tubal reversal surgery. This surgery is quite common among the younger women who had their tubes tied after deciding that they don’t want to have more children. They have their tubes tied through a surgery known as tubal ligation which is a birth control method. Tubal ligation reversal is the reverse of this procedure. This is the treatment of restoring the lost fertility of a woman.

Every woman who takes this treatment of tubal reversal thinks that would I be able to get pregnant again after the surgery or not. A successful pregnancy that is possible after the tubal reversal depends on the following factors

  • The female age
  • The site where the tubes were tied

The Site Where The Tubes Were Tied

Usually the tubal ligations are performed in the middle of the tube.  The tube is rejoined with the help of stitches which are placed in this muscle of the tube. But if the tubal ligation is performed at the place where the tube joins the uterus, then there are only a few chances of successful surgery of tubal reversal. Moreover if the ligation is done at the place where the tube is more delicate and large then the chances of successful treatment are also less.  Some tubal ligations are not reversible for example if it is performed by removing the end of the tube, it is not reversible

Successful Tubal Ligation Reversal

If the tubal ligation is done by using the Hulka clip or Falope Rings then the chances of successful tubal ligation reversal are more because the clips of the rings can be easily removed without damaging the tubes.

When Can You Try To Get Pregnant?

You may attempt to get pregnant after having your second menstrual cycle. In some special cases, you may try after the first period. It is advised that you should wait at least two months after the surgery so that your tubes may heal properly. Your abdomen will also be tender after the surgery so you should be very careful for a few weeks. It is very important for your tubes to sufficiently heal and you must wait for some weeks after tubal reversal surgery to get pregnant.

If everything is fine with your health, you can try to get pregnant in the first month of trying. Usually the pregnancy occurs in the first year after tubal ligation reversal.

If you get pregnant after the treatment you must be very careful. There are some risks of ectopic pregnancy so you must visit your doctor immediately after you come to know that you are pregnant to check if it is not the ectopic pregnancy. Although the chances of ectopic pregnancy is only 10 percent but still you should consult your doctor to make sure you are carrying a healthy pregnancy.
